  • Swimming Lagoon at Fleming Meadows - Green grass and a sandy beach make this the most popular place for swimming at the lake

In the area:

  • Yosemite National Park - Yosemite National Park, one of the first wilderness parks in the United States, is best known for its waterfalls, but within its nearly 1,200 square miles, you can find deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, a vast wilderness area, and much more. Due to its popularity, permits are now required to hike to the top of Half Dome.
  • Turlock Lake State Recreation Area - 22600 Lake Road, La Grange, CA, 95329, 209-874-2056—Open all year and featuring camping, picnicking, fishing, swimming, boating, water skiing, and clean country air, the area offers visitors an opportunity to see the wonderful variety of native plant life that once flourished alongside the rivers of the San Joaquin Valley.
  • McConnell State Recreation Area - 5 miles southeast of Delhi on Highway 99, south of Turlock—The park is on the banks of the Merced River. Fishing is popular for catfish, black bass and perch. There are picnic, camping and play areas.
  • Tuolumne Gold Dredge - Ruins of a dredge that operated from 1938 to 1951, it is located on private property, but a marker can be seen near La Grange, on County Route J59, 2 miles south of Hwy 132, on the right-hand side when traveling south.

  • Moaning Cavern Park - 5350 Moaning Dave Road, Vallecito, CA 95251, 209-736-2708—walking tours or adventure tours with rappelling and ziplines
  • California Cavern - 9565 Cave City Road, Mountain Ranch, CA 95246, 866-762-2837—accessible only in the dry season, three different tours are offered ranging from a 1-hour walk tour to a 4 hour tour that may involve some crawling and squeezing.
  • Bagby Recreation Area - 209-378-2521—panning for gold, camping, fishing, picnicking
  • California State Mining and Mineral Museum - At the Mariposa Fairgrounds on Hwy 49 South, 209-742-7625—gold, gem, and mineral displays
  • Mariposa Museum & History Center - 5119 Jesse Street, Mariposa, 209-966-2924—history displays and panning for gold
  • Railtown 1897 State Historic Park - P.O. Box 1250, Jamestown, CA 95327, 209-984-3953—includes a roundhouse from the 1800’s, steam trains, steam train rides, store, etc.
  • Tuttletown Recreation Area - 7200 Reynolds Ferry Rd, Sonora, CA—home of New Melones Lake the area also provides wilderness for hunting, hiking, camping, horseback riding and more
