Ozarks Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get to the lake?
Lake of the Ozarks is located just 2 1/2 hours south of Kansas City or St. Louis, in the heart of Missouri. The marina is 1 1/2 hours northeast of Springfield on Hwy 5, north of Camdenton, Missouri. For a detailed map and directions to the different marinas, click here to view a map of the Lake of the Ozarks area.
What will the water temperature be like during my trip?
The lake is warm from mid-summer through late fall and pleasantly cool in the shoulder seasons. Winter and early to mid-spring water and air temperatures are too cold for swimming. View a month-by-month list of temperatures here.
Where is the best place to go on the lake?
Lake of the Ozarks has numerous private coves for beaching your houseboat. Our boat rental office staff will provide you with a map of the lake showing you the best coves on the lake.
What's the fishing like on the lake?
Whether you are a serious pro looking for some outstanding bass fishing or a part-time angler looking for a lazy day of relaxation and family fun, Lake of the Ozarks has the ingredients for your fishing vacation. Both will be challenged to fish the largemouth bass, crappie, white bass, stripers, rainbow trout, walleye and catfish, all year-round.
Knowledgeable fishermen use deep-diving crankbaits and jig-n-frog lures when fishing the cool spring waters. Summer anglers find their bass around deep points, drop offs and boat docks. And, just when you think the action's going to end, the cool weather of October and November brings the bass back in the shallows for some more fast fishing action.
Can I purchase supplies at the marina?
The Lake of the Ozarks Marina Convenience store provides all the last-minute items, snacks and cold beverages for your time spent on the lake. Don't forget the gifts and memorabilia! The Convenience Store provides a wide variety of gift items and clothing for yourself or someone special, including t-shirts, hats, mugs, magnets and children's water toys.
What else is there to do in the area?
Maybe you'd like to explore one of Missouri's 5,000 caves. Bridal Cave is accessible by houseboat and features a unique stalactite adorned Bridal Chapel where over 1850 couples have tied the knot.
The more popular lake activities are fishing, boating, swimming and waterskiing - and, of course, this includes dining at one of the many restaurants on or overlooking the lake. (There's nearly 100!).
How difficult is driving a houseboat?
Driving a houseboat is different than driving a car, but is not that difficult. The marina staff will walk you through driving the boat when you pick it up. Most people get the hang of maneuvering the boat within a few minutes.
How do I check availability or reserve a houseboat?
Give us a call at 888-454-8825, and one of our reservation agents will be happy to check availability for you. It's helpful if you already have an idea of when you want to go and what boat you're most interested in when you call.
Alternatively, you can contact us online with your availability request, and one of our agents will be happy to get back to you with the information you need.
How early do I need to reserve?
Earlier is better. If you're planning a trip during a holiday weekend like Memorial Day, it's best to get a reservation six months or more in advance. Mid-week trips or off-season dates are often available as little as a few weeks beforehand.
