The Suwannee River winds a deeply historic route through southern Georgia and northern Florida. Then, it empties into the Gulf of Mexico.
As a houseboating trip, the Suwannee makes for a gentle and scenic route. It winds through the more rural parts of the two states, and if houses are built right against the shores, they have a charming, small town quality. And it sometimes seems that between every house is a small park . . . or not-so-small park.
Slide through the savannahs in a houseboat and perhaps rent a canoe or kayak or two to paddle around in as well. The Suwannee River is a very popular canoe route, after all. You may also want to check out some of the historic and natural sites along the Suwannee River Wilderness Trail.
