Personal Watercraft Regulations at Lake Powell
Time is running out! Will your personal watercraft (PWC) be legal on Lake Powell in 2013?
According to federal regulations, after December 31, 2012, no one may operate a PWC that does not meet the 2006 emission standards set by the EPA for the manufacturing of two-stroke engines. There has been a ten year delay of implementation of this rule to allow PWC owners time to transition.
Park rangers will take into account operator knowledge, the model of the PWC, the engine type and whether it’s carbureted when determining compliance with the regulation.
If you do not know whether your PWC meets the 2006 EPA emission standards for two-stroke engines, please contact your manufacturer or mechanic for this information.
