Lake Billy Chinook is a canyon lake in Oregon, its clear waters flowing between the deep carved banks of the Crooked, Deschutes, and Metolius Rivers. The dam has made this convergence a reservoir instead of a three-in-one river, but the lake is unusually narrow. Lake Billy Chinook, of course, is not so narrow that this hampers houseboating at all. In fact, it makes it more interesting. Boating between those intense cliffs in the bright summer or in the gently chilly winter isn't quite like boating anywhere else.
Whether you're taking to the lake in a comfortably large craft meant for sleeping in as well as cruising in or running swift across the surface in a personal watercraft, Lake Billy Chinook is beautiful and unique. The water is very deep, too, for the lake being so narrow and you can stare down forever without seeing the bottom.
If you like fishing while you boat, this is a good place to do it. Bull Trout are the most popular catch and tend to be huge - the largest three Bull Trout in Oregon were caught here. Other popular species are Kokanee Salmon and Brown and Rainbow Trout.
