Home to an impressive winter colony of eagles and the Wildflower Triathlon, Lake San Antonio is rimmed with beautiful, wild hills. The dramatic Big Sur Coast is only 20 miles away - the fresh air off the lake is mingled with the fresh air off the ocean. Lake San Antonio has a pleasant Mediterranean climate, certainly never too cool, but never too hot, either. Houseboating excursions are particularly relaxing here.
Anchor your boat by the shore to enjoy picnicking under the trees or hiking up one of the many trails around the lake. Or rent a motorboat alongside your houseboat to explore the shoreline from the water - and water-ski the wide surface of the lake.
Fishing is another popular activity on the lake and with good reason. All varieties of bass, striped, largemouth and smallmouth, are frequent catches in Lake San Antonio. And, of course, while you fish, you'll want to keep an eye on the shore for those eagles and many other birds, among them herons and pelicans.
