It’s always a good time to go houseboating! The Keys are moderate all year. Temperatures tend to be steadily within the 70s and 80s whether you’re visiting in December or June. The only seasonal difference is precipitation. Summer is wet and winter is dry, although showers tend to be quick even in the summertime. View a month-by-month list of temperatures here: Average Temperatures.

The maximum capacity on the 38’Houseboat is the amount it sleeps (6 people.) This is a regulation set by the Coast Guard.

To rent from Marathon Boat Dock, the renter must be at least 22 years of age with a valid drivers’ license.

Pets are not allowed

The 38’ Houseboat with the Island is a docked vacation, meaning the houseboat stays docked at the private island for the duration of your stay.

However, you are given a tag-a-long motorized boat at no additional cost for exploration of the area.

The 38’ Houseboat with Island has a 7 night minimum; the rental cost is regularly $2995+tax, but holiday rates may apply for dates throughout the year. See our Pricing Page for more details

Generally, people reserve about 6 months in advance. But it's always a good idea to make a reservation as soon as you're ready, especially if you have specific dates in mind or if you're planning a trip over a holiday weekend or on a special promotion.

Give us a call at 888-454-8825. Our reservation agents are happy to check availability or confirm your vacation.

Alternatively, you may Contact Us Online with your availability request, and one of our agents will get back to you with the information you need.

To reserve:

  • A $1000 security deposit is due upon booking by credit card over the phone. This amount is above your rental cost, and is refundable at the end of your trip
  • The rental amount and $200 cleaning fee is due 60 days prior to your arrival

  • More than 60 days notice: forfeit deposit
  • Less than 60 days notice: forfeit full rental

Basics such as cookware and serve-ware (pots, plans, plates, glasses, utensils, etc.) come equipped on the houseboat. You are responsible for bringing all of your food, beverages, and spices down to salt and pepper.

Fuel charges for the houseboat and motor boat will apply. Like a rental car, the houseboat and motor boat is full upon your arrival, and you’ll be responsible for the final refueling at the end of your trip to pay for what you’ve used.

Typically, we recommend that you budget about $50-75 per day for fuel. Of course, it may be more or less based on how much you drive the motor boat each day and how much you run the houseboat’s generator.

Linens are included with the houseboat rental. This includes:

  • a fitted sheet
  • top sheet
  • blanket
  • pillow and case
  • bath and beach towels

You may arrive as early as 3pm, and must be back at the marina at 9am on your final day.

Marathon Boat Dock operates on a set schedule:

  • 7 night week: Saturday-Saturday

You will be instructed to contact the marina manager 2 days prior to your arrival to coordinate a meeting and sign paperwork.

The motor boat cannot be driven after dark. If you arrive after dark, you will not be able to get on the houseboat that night.

Marathon Key is mid-keys, and located about 111 miles from Miami. See our Map & Directions page to view a map and directions to the Florida Keys area.

Yes! There is fishing at the Florida Keys!

There are a variety of fish found in these waters including: Kingfish, Wahoo, Mackerel, Tuna, Sailfish, among many other varieties.

A Florida state fishing license is required and will allow you to fish anywhere in the Keys. Be sure to purchase a license online ahead of time.

Seasickness is very uncommon as houseboats are wider and more stable than smaller boats. However, if you get sick easily we recommend that you take necessary precautions.

If you are checked in and staying on a boat and have to leave due to mandatory evacuation, you will only be charged for the nights you were able to stay. If you choose to cancel because the possibility exists, the cancellation applies.
