Earth Friendly Houseboating

Earth Day is a day to celebrate, and that got us thinking...how can we (the houseboating industry) help?

What we're doing at Houseboating.org to help our planet:

  • We've gone paperless! Since we do not send out paper materials or brochures, we've entered all of our houseboat information in a brochure format on our website.
  • How to navigate: From our Home Page, visit our Destinations Page to see a map and full listing of all houseboating locations, then click on the location you would desire to visit. From there, you can explore each of our houseboats, their amenities, floor plans and pricing by date.

What you can do on your own houseboat vacation:

  • Conserve fuel consumption by renting or bringing a powerboat or extra watercraft. It's more fuel AND time efficient than driving the houseboat.
  • Use the supplied dishes and utensils on the houseboat rather than paper plates or plastic ware.
  • Live by the "pack it in, pack it out" philosophy to eliminate litter and keep our favorite destinations looking spectacularly natural.
  • Biodegradable hygiene products
  • Some marinas offer a recycling service; ask the marina staff when you pick up your houseboat. Usually there are two large bins for garbage; separate your recyclables from trash, and let the marina staff know which is which when you return your houseboat. They'll take care of the rest!

Have you hugged Earth today?
