Rideau Canal - Frequently Asked Questions

Presented below are frequently asked questions about houseboat rentals and houseboating on the Rideau Canal. If you need additional assistance, please contact us toll-free at 888-454-8825 or click here to submit a request for more guidance. Our friendly and knowledgeable Houseboat Rental Agents are always happy to help.

The Rideau Canal cruising season lasts from mid-May to mid-October.

Our houseboats can accommodate up to 12 people, depending on the model of boat.

In order to drive the boat there is a minimum age limit of 18. A minimum of 2 adults is required on board.

Dogs are allowed on all houseboats with a fee of $65 per animal, and a maximum of two dogs aboard each boat.

To reserve:

  • 50% deposit payment is recured to secure your booking
  • The final payment will be due 70 days before your trip begins

Fuel is not included in the houseboat rental. Like a rental car, you'll pick up the houseboat full and you'll be responsible for the final refueling at the end of your trip to pay for what you've used. A fuel deposit will be required when you arrive at the marina.

Normal collection time is between 4pm and 5pm and return time is by 9am on the final day.

We recommend you to arrive at the base between 2pm & 3pm to get the briefing & instructions. If you want to cruise a few hours more on your departure and/or end day, you could book an Early Check in and/or Late check out, if available.

Early boarding and late return can be purchased ahead of time for $150 each. There is a limit of 3 boats allowed per day so you will want to make sure to request far in advance.

You are only allowed to moor in private marinas, town/village marinas and Parks Canada moorings (situated at lock stations) which all provide overnight moorings for a fee, with varying facilities and services. However, a mandatory fee (short breaks US$70  | 1 week US$110) will be charged to Le Boat customers and covers overnight moorings at all Parks Canada sites, as well as the town/village marinas of Portland, Seeley’s Bay, Perth and Westport – a significantly reduced rate than the fee charged locally at each of these moorings sites. Availability at these sites is on a first-come, first served basis and the supplement excludes the use of services such as shore power, which is available in some locations. Other mooring options are available for a fee, which is payable locally. This fee will be automatically added, as a cost, to your Canada booking and is included in the prices quoted on our website when applicable
