Fall Fishing at Lake Cumberland
With the official beginning of fall just days away, we find ourselves in one of the best times of the year for fishing at Lake Cumberland. Cool weather and diminishing crowds provides an ideal atmosphere for casting and catching during the day, and relaxing in comfort on your houseboat during the evening on the peaceful wooded shores.

Thought of as one of the finer destinations for fishing in the Eastern United States, Lake Cumberland's clean and clear water hosts an impressive amount of species including: crappie, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, white bass, sturgeon, catfish, sauger, bluegill, rockfish, walleye, brown trout, lake trout, rainbow trout, and many others.

Although live baiting with shad is increasingly becoming the most common in the fall and winter months, other methods have proven successful. Here are some recent tips provided by the US Army Corps of Engineers regarding fishing at Cumberland in the current conditions:
- Striper fish are being caught while trolling using umbrella rigs and livebait.
- Crappie and bluegill will be found near under water brush in the mouths of creeks using minnows, jigs, and tubes in 12-15 feet.
- Bass can be found in the early morning and before dark on topwater bait, spinners, and jigs.
- Catfish can be at night on the bottom using nightcrawlers and stinkbaits.
- Walleye can be caught in 40 feet trolling on bottom bouncers and deep tolling crank bait.
